8th Grade Problem Solving: Week of January 11

1.  You are in charge of grilling hamburgers at your class picnic.  The hamburger patties come in packages of 12, and the hamburger buns come in packages of 8.  After everyone is finished eating, you have an open package of hamburger patties that contains 5 patties and an open package of hamburger buns that contains 5 buns.  How many hamburgers were eaten?

2. Find two consecutive integers that have a product of 20.

3.   A science club holds a car wash to raise money.  Two groups of students wash cars.  One group can wash 6 cars per hour.  The other group can wash 4 cars per hour.  How long do both groups take to wash a total of 30 cars?  Use a diagram and an equation to find the answer.
